Why do Batterers Batter?

1.They are taught that women are not as worthy of respect as men.

2. They have a low sense of power and they think that the way to get power is to take it from other people.

3. They have low self-esteem.

4. They are not in touch with their feelings and they don’t know how to talk about how they feel.

5. They believe that violence is the way to solve problems and to get someone to do what they want them to.

6. They don’t really know who they are. The batterer is ACTING. This is how they think men are supposed to be (if they are a guy). Batterers define themselves by hurting others and by getting control over others.
